Some vegan options

Starbucks (3 locations in the airport) offers vegan bagels (Plain, Cinnamon Raisin, Everything) and a wide range of vegan-modifiable drinks. A Farmer's Fridge vending machine in Concourse D offers freshly-made salads, bowls, and snacks that often include vegan options.

The Story

Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport (MKE) traces its roots to 1919 as one of the first county-operated airports in the U.S., and was renamed in 1941 to honor General William 'Billy' Mitchell — a Milwaukee native widely regarded as the father of the U.S. Air Force. One of its quirkiest gems is the free Mitchell Gallery of Flight, a nonprofit aviation museum open 24/7 right in the terminal, pre-security. The airport also holds a rare distinction: it has its own Amtrak station, making it one of the very few U.S. airports with direct rail access to both downtown Milwaukee and Chicago.

Before You Go

MKE is refreshingly low-stress compared to major hubs — lines move quickly and the terminal is compact. Plan to arrive at least 90 minutes before departure; ticketed passengers have the rare perk of accessing all concourses freely, so you can explore dining options beyond your gate. Parking and curbside drop-off are straightforward, but give yourself a buffer during morning rush hours.
