The Story

Strange Town has been a beloved anchor of Milwaukee's Lower East Side since late 2017, operating out of a beautiful 1920s Spanish Revival building on Prospect Ave. It's a fully plant-based kitchen and natural wine bar — 100% vegan, always made from scratch — paired with a rare eclectic vinyl record library that doubles as a living soundtrack for your meal. In late 2025 the owners made a vulnerable, public plea for community support after a rough year, and Milwaukee showed up; as of January 2026, OnMilwaukee named it one of its 52 must-visit restaurants of the year, proof that the city isn't ready to let this one go.

Before You Go

No reservations accepted — it's walk-in only, so arrive right at 5 PM on weekends to avoid a wait. Open Wednesday–Saturday, 5–9 PM only; the kitchen is closed Sunday through Tuesday, so plan accordingly. The menu is seasonal and changes regularly, so don't get too attached to any one dish you read about online.
